Genoa weather is classified as Mediterranean, with prominent maritime influences. Because of its positioning in the western Mediterranean and the near by hills that offer abundant sheltering, weather in Genoa is renowned and envied across the globe.
Weather in Genoa is characterized by its warm although not uncomfortably hot summers, and by its mild winters with their predominantly pleasant temperatures. On the other hand Genoa weather can occasionally be quite unpredictable outside of these two seasons.
As mentioned earlier Genoa weather during the winter break remains mainly mild and pleasant, with average temperatures reaching between 6 °C and 8.0 °C in January. Northerly winds blowing in from central and northern Europe especially during the winter season, deliver cool air accompanied by cooler temperatures, high pressure and brilliant clear skies.
Southeasterly winds propel in warm and humid air from the sea; this is mainly due to storms in the Atlantic. Genoa weather enjoys pleasant winters, averaging 4, or 5 hours of sunlight daily. All through winter though, overcast and drizzling days, alternate with spells of calm, sunny weather. Nights are at times warm and humid. Genoa city rarely gets cold enough for snow and in January the city’s average temperatures recorded are between 8°C to 10°C, with no frost.
Summer weather in Genoa is warm and dry, averaging 10 or 11 hours of sunshine daily. The city of Genoa steers clear of the suffocating heat of the Southern Mediterranean during the summer months. On average, temperatures in August are between 24.0 °C and up to 35°C.
The most pleasant time to visit Genoa is in May or September when the sea is warm and inviting. July is the driest month while October and November are the wettest. Snow fall makes the odd appearance, but usually only once a year.
